Blogging for trades: what to write and how often

A blog gives you something useful to share on Facebook and in local groups, and it helps your website show up when people search their questions. You don't need to be a writer. You need to answer the questions you already hear every week.

What to write about

  • Questions customers ask you. “Why is my furnace blowing cold air?” “How long does a roof last in Ontario?”
  • Costs. “How much does it cost to replace a water heater?” Give a realistic range and what changes the price.
  • Seasonal checklists. Spring AC check, fall gutter cleaning, winterizing outdoor taps.
  • Recent jobs. The problem, what you did, and before-and-after photos.
  • When to call a pro. What a homeowner can safely do themselves, and when they shouldn't.

How to write each post

  1. Use the question as the title, worded the way a customer would say it.
  2. Answer it in the first two sentences. Then explain.
  3. Mention your area naturally, such as “in older homes around town” or the towns you serve.
  4. Add one or two of your own photos.
  5. Link to the matching service page, and end with how to book: “Need it done? Call us at…”
  6. Aim for 600 to 1,000 words. Long enough to be useful, short enough to read on a phone.

How often

One good post a month beats four rushed ones. Keep a running list on your phone of questions customers ask, and you'll never run out of topics. Share each post on your Facebook page, in local groups where it's allowed, and on Nextdoor.

The short versionAnswer real customer questions, one solid post a month, with your own photos and a link to book.
